LA Fire Conclave

How to Join

The following is what is expected of Conclave members
  1. Communication of intent.
    • In LA, you need to get on la-fireconclave list (or join tribe if the list doesn't work for you) and keep in contact via some direct method (if you're not in LA, you're in the wrong place, contact Crimson).
    • Even then, if you're not in the database, you're not in LAFC.
  2. Attend Meetings
Meetings are posted on the e-mail list, then on tribe, and sometimes via phone, or whatever. Regular attendance at Burn Club is your best bet. Mandatory meetings are posted below, however all wednesdays from the first Mandatory to the Burn are practices. If we get shorted on laminates again, given a ceiling on performers, or otherwise need to trim the numbers in the great circle, meeting attendance will factor heavily in to the decision about who gets in.
  3. Practice
Since it's inception, the LA fire conclave has striven to put on a choreographed routine in addition to any renegade time we could squeeze out. Regular practice increases and focuses your skills to the needs of the group.
Spotters will be required at all mandatory meetings, filmings and rehearsals.
  4. Safety
You are required to take a safety class from LAFC. Since everyone in LAFC may a safety at some point, everyone will get safety training. Additional safety habits will be developed as a natural part of attending Burn Club and following it's rules. When in doubt, follow the new NAFAA.org regs.
  5. Community
We're fostering a nice mellow community of friends. Civil behavior is demanded at all times, even if there are people in the group that get on your nerves.
  6. Sobriety
Both at Burn Club and under the Man, you are expected to be sober when you spin. Naturally, I'm not gonna make you pee in a cup, but if you look like you can't handle a normal spin, you'll be asked to sit out that day's event.
  7. Celerity
We can't just have a bunch of slugs, dressed in grey, twirling their little tools. There needs to be some spectacle. Dress up, dress down; and be ready to put on a SHOW. Or at least be such a badass spinner that no one cares how you dress. :)
  8. On the playa
    1. Check in at Fire Conclave Convergence
FCC is a booth where volunteers manage the great book containing all fire conclave members. You are expected to find this camp, and check in before Friday evening (the night before the Man burns). I'd prefer it if you checked in by Thursday afternoon. Check with Playa Information (found around Center Camp) to locate FCC in any given year.
    2. Attend on-playa meetings
Sometimes Crimson wants to see everyone, sometimes, I need to talk to you. You'll get this info as soon as I know about it, but you can get a reminder when you check in. I tend to hold my meetings on Thursday night, which is why I prefer you to be checked in by then.
    3. Find Me.
To get in to the Great Circle on burn night, you'll need a laminate. I'll get your laminate sometime Saturday afternoon. You'll need to know where I'll be to pick yours up. Also, by then, I'll know where we'll be positioned around the Man on burn night.
    4. Show up, fully equipped.
Oddly, a small but predictable percentage of people never make it to the great circle, even after checking in. You'll need to think about showing up around 7-8pm, ready to spin. Remember, bring your laminate, a safety towel, your tools, and fuel. Also, be ready to pack out everything.
    5. Throw down
LA has always made the crowd roar during it's routines and we intend to keep it that way. Don't hold back, give it your all. As long as you're safe about it, we generally encourage people to really "go there" and beyond.
    6. Enjoy
Once the performance is over, itz milla time. Do what you want, but please take your stuff with you.
